NDRE058 Compass “A Silent Symphony” – CD

It is a well-known phenomenon among music lovers who have been around for several decades (and there are plenty of them in both our readership group and the editorial staff, including myself): there is still plenty of music to enjoy, and then we do the same. warmly. But how often are you really touched by a new album? Got you thinking? How often should a record be put on repeat immediately after listening? And will you then actively look for more information about the band, record and theme? It happens to me very rarely, and to what extent that is due to me or the music is a question for another time. But that’s precisely why it’s wonderful when a “blow me away” album suddenly comes along. “A Silent Symphony” by Compass is one of those.

Compass (UK) is the brainchild of Steve Newman, who has already made his mark in AOR/melodic rock through the creatively named band Newman. But Steve increasingly needed a separate outlet for his more progressive influences and inspiration, which led to the birth of Compass a few years ago. The band showed an interesting mix of progressive rock and prog metal on the first two albums “Our Time On Earth” (2020) and “Theory Of Tides” (2022), with its melodic rock roots never far away. The press release refers to an eclectic mix of Dream Theater, Rush, Saga, It Bites, and Pink Floyd. I would also like to add Newman himself and other melodic rock bands like Foreigner and Toto.
